View and edit your cart page.


Your cart is where your customers’ products are placed as they shop on your store - you could view it as a holding area for customers’ items, where they can adjust quantity and view all items they are looking to buy.

The name “cart” is sometimes also called “trolley” or “basket”, but they all essentially mean the same thing.

When the user updates the quantity of an item in the cart, the cart will update automatically. 


Cart is often confused with the checkout. The checkout is where payment and delivery details are taken care of and is outside the control of your theme - this is handled by the broader Shopify platform.

The cart always comes before the checkout in the buying process.

How do I view my cart page?

You can do this by heading to:

  1. Admin
  2. Online Store > Themes > Customise
  3. Click on the drop-down page selector and choose 'Cart'

You will see something like this:

How do I change my cart page text?

For changing the wording / text, this should be super-easy to do if you go to:

  1. Admin
  2. Online Store > Themes
  3. Actions > Edit Languages

You can search in the box at the top for the existing text. It will then bring up result/s where you can edit this. Any changes to the text here will be reflected on the storefront. Or you can click the “cart” tab.

How do I change my cart page options?

Use the following method:

  1. Admin
  2. Online store > Themes > Customise
  3. Click on the drop-down page selector and choose 'Cart'
  4. Select 'Cart page' from the left-hand-side settings panel.

You will then see the following options:

Cart type


This adds an animation, displaying your cart as a drawer which slides out from the right-hand-side of the storefront when an item is added to the cart.


Adding items to the cart triggers the page to reload, displaying your cart as a whole, standalone web page.

Show product vendor

Toggling this checkbox displays or hides the product vendor, beneath the product title in the cart.

Enable cart notes

Toggling this checkbox shows / hides a box where customers can add a small piece of text for you to view. This can be useful for customisations or messages.

You may feel you want to change the default text to something more suitable for your site. To change this, head to:

  1. Admin
  2. Online store > Themes > Actions > Edit languages
  3. You can then use the search bar, entering: 'Add note for the seller'. This will bring up the text, where you will be able to customise it to whatever you prefer.
